was short & scant

I made Conseil notice the considerable development of the lobes of the brain in these fascinating cetaceans. No mammal, except man, has such a number of brain matter; they are also able to receiving a definite amount of schooling, are basically domesticated, & I think, with other naturalists, that if properly taught they would be of great service as fishing-dogs. GHD Precious Gift SetThe greater part of them slept on the rocks or on the sand. Amongst these seals, properly so called, which have no outside ears (in which they differ from the otter, whose ears are prominent), I noticed several varieties of seals about six yards long, with a white coat, bulldog heads, armed with teeth in both jaws, two incisors at the top & two at the bottom, & two large dog teeth in the shape of a fleur-de-lis. Amongst them glided sea-elephants, a kind of seal, with short, flexible trunks. The giants
of this species measured twenty feet round & ten yards & a half in length; but they did not move as they approached. "These creatures are not risky?" asked Conseil. "No; not unless you assault them. When they must defend their young their anger is terrible, & it is not unusual for them to break the fishing-boats to pieces." "They are right," said Conseil. "I do not say they are not." Two miles farther on they were stopped by the promontory which shelters the bay from the southerly winds. Beyond it they heard loud bellowings such as a troop of ruminants would produce. "Good!"GHD Precious said Conseil; "a concert of bulls!" "No; a concert of morses." "They are fighting!" "They are either fighting or playing." They now began to climb the blackish rocks, amid unexpected stumbles, & over stones which the ice made slippery. Over once I rolled over at the expense of my loins. Conseil, more prudent or more steady, did not stumble, & helped me up, saying: "If, sir, you would have the kindness to take wider steps, you would preserve your equilibrium better." Arrived at the upper ridge of the promontory, I saw a large white plain covered with morses. They were playing amongst themselves, & what they heard were bellowings of pleasure, not of anger. As I passed these curious animals I could examine them leisurely, for they did not move. Their skins were thick & rugged, of a yellowish tint, approaching to red; their hair was short & scant. rosetta stone
